A Jewish organization established in Great Britain in 1936 to support the emigration of Jews from Germany in conjunction with American Jewish organizations. The Council operated in London as a successor to the British Fund for German Jewry. Until the war began, the Council subsidized the emigration of approximately 100,000 Jews from Germany. When the war erupted, it shifted its focus to aid for refugees who reached Great Britain and renamed itself the Central Council for Jewish Refugees.
